What subjects are offered?
Students have the opportunity to receive instruction in grade level Math, English Language Arts, Science, & Social Studies. In addition to the core subjects, students may also choose to participate in book studies and various elective classes.
What grades do you serve?
Southern Schoolhouse currently serves students in grade 3-6.
What does the enrollment fee cover?
Enrollment fees cover registration, curriculum, self-paced video lessons, printable & digital activities, and access to teacher support for all classes.
Why do the grade level Math & English Language Arts classes only last 9 weeks?
Core grade level classes are offered in sections. Each grade level has 4 sections (9 weeks each) for the equivalent of a full year of grade level instruction in math & language arts (reading, writing & grammar). Students will enroll for each section separately and will have access to each section for the limited amount of time that is specified in the course description.
How will my student stay on track?
Access to the entire section is available upon enrollment. A pacing guide is included to help students stay on track to be successful in the amount of time the course is available. I recommend that your student keeps all printable materials contained & organized within a 3 ring binder, but this is certainly not a requirement.
What other grade level instruction is offered by Southern Schoolhouse?
Learning with Southern Schoolhouse is designed to provide a full educational experience for students in grades 3-6. Science, Social Studies, Book/Novel Studies, & Elective classes are offered separately in units based on topic. These classes can be taken in any order based upon student interest & age. Age recommendations are listed in each course description.
Is video instruction best for my student?
You know your student best, but in my opinion, video instruction is very beneficial to student learning. Self-paced video instruction allows students to learn anywhere, anytime! Videos can be rewatched an unlimited amount until the student is comfortable with the content.
Does Southern Schoolhouse take the place of “regular school”?
Yes and no. We offer courses that are designed to provide a full learning experience for your student, but it is the family’s responsibility to follow their own state guidelines for homeschooling.
Is there a lot of planning & prep for families?
No! That is one of the huge benefits of the programs offered by Southern Schoolhouse. No extra planning is required of families, as everything is included by Southern Schoolhouse. Some learning materials will need to be printed, and occasionally supplies will need to be available for hands on learning. If access to a printer is not available, student will need to be able to transcribe some notes & activities to blank paper.
Are the courses aligned to state or national standards?
The topics covered in each grade level course are aligned with U.S. national standards. This simply means that the standards have been used to design the courses. Math & Language Arts curriculum is aligned with CCSS (Common Core State Standards). Science curriculum is aligned with NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards).
What curriculum is used in the courses offered by Southern Schoolhouse?
Courses at Southern Schoolhouse are created using curriculum designed and licensed by Teacher Tech Studio, LLC or curriculum that has been purchased with a license to share with our students. The resources are to be used by the enrolled student only. Please only use the printable & video resources for the single student enrolled in the course. In order for multiple students to use the materials, each student should be enrolled separately.
