How Does the Vocabulary Menu Work?

  • Instructions in the margins of the first slide (contents page) instruct students to choose meal choices for themselves and a friend, which includes:
    • 2 drinks
    • 2 appetizers
    • 2 main courses
    • 4 sides
    • 2 desserts
  • Instructions can be deleted if you want to change the amount of vocabulary activities that are required each week
  • A space is provided for students to type their vocabulary words into the Google slide margin and use provided tally marks to keep track of how many times they practice with a particular word
  • Circles are provided in the margins to drag and drop over the vocabulary menu activities that students complete from the choice board
  • Clickable links on the contents page will take students directly to the interactive slide to complete the weekly practice
  • Some of the menu activities repeat under different sections so students have the opportunity to choose them more than once per list of words

This Vocabulary Choice Board Includes 12 Engaging Activities Perfect for Upper Elementary:

  • Vocabulary Four Square – a vocabulary graphic organizer for which students identify the word, define it, use it in an original sentence, identify its part of speech, list synonyms and antonyms, and insert an image or draw a digital picture 
  • Dictionary – a mock dictionary page for which students define a word from their word list and use alphabetical order practice to identify a word that would come before and after their word in the dictionary

How Does the Spelling Word Menu Work?

  • Decide how many activities you want your students to complete – all 10? Half? You decide!
  • A space is provided for students to type their spelling words into the Google slide margin so they are always available, even if a student loses a list (that would never happen!)
  • Circles are provided in the margins to drag and drop over the word work menu activities that students complete from the choice board
  • Clickable links on the contents page will take students directly to the interactive slide to complete the weekly practice
  • Each activity encourages students to use all or as many words from their list as possible

This Spelling Choice Board Includes 10 Engaging Activities Perfect for Upper Elementary:

  • Comic Strip – a comic strip template for which students create a comic including 4 words from their spelling list – drag and drop characters and text boxes are included – this activity can be duplicated to include practice with more words
  • Alphabetical Order – students list spelling words in alphabetical order – a small abc reference is included on the top of the slide
  • Word Search – an engaging activity that allows students to create their own word search using their spelling words – this provides practice with spelling as they add the letters to the word search template and type them into the word bank – examples are included
  • Fancy Fonts – students get to type their words in fun fonts
  • Scrabble Spelling – drag and drop Scrabble tiles are included in the margins of the slides for students to build each word – as an extra bonus this activity asks students to use the numbers on the tiles to create a math expression and find the word’s value
  • Color Words – students get to type their words using different color fonts
  • Syllable Sort – students sort words into one, two, three, four, and five syllables – they type directly into the graphic organizer
  • Vowel Sort – students sort their words into long vowel and short vowel columns – they type directly into the graphic organizer

✨Want to change up the order of the activities? All you need to do is reorder them before you share them with your students.

✨Want more of a particular activity? DUPLICATE the slide – just be aware that the clickable contents page will not be connected to the slide you added.

✨Don’t want your students to have access to all of the activities at once?  Save each individual activity slide into Google drive and make them shareable with students.  Then assign them as you want students to complete them!

✨Don’t like one of the activities?  No problem!  You can delete any of the slides that you don’t want your students to use.
